How to survive Pinhead in Hellraiser: Revival

Pinhead cannot be killed in Hellraiser: Revival: what he is, why fighting wastes ammo, how chases and hiding work, and the rules each encounter sets.

What Pinhead is in Revival

Pinhead is the leader of the Cenobites, and Revival brings back the original voice: Doug Bradley plays him for the first time in nearly two decades. The story starts from his side of a bargain — you play Aidan, following his girlfriend Sunny into Hell after dealing with Pinhead — so he is part of the story’s frame, not a wandering monster.

In gameplay terms he is not a duel. The published guides describe no health pool and no victory condition for him: Pinhead cannot be killed, and no encounter with him is won by damage.

Why you should not fight him

Everything the game makes scarce is wasted on him:

  • Ammunition is scavenged. The gameplay overview’s combat loop runs on scavenged ammunition; spending it on an enemy who cannot die buys nothing.
  • Melee weapons break. Broken weapons cannot be repaired and are discarded. Durability spent on Pinhead is a weapon gone.
  • There is nothing to deplete. This page carries no boss health table for him, because the sources behind it describe none.

The win condition in a Cenobite encounter is escape. Treat the urge to stand and fight as the mistake the scene is testing.

Chases and hiding

Cenobite chases are survived with movement and the encounter’s own rules:

  1. Run with the route, not against it. Chases move you toward the exit the game opens; leaving it to brawl or loot is how attempts end.
  2. Hide when the scene offers it. Use the hiding opportunities an encounter presents rather than inventing ones it does not.
  3. Follow the encounter’s rules. The template is the Chatterer, who chases you through the Labyrinth three times; each escape is a story trophy, so the game counts them for you.
  4. Save beforehand. Keep the manual-save habit from the walkthrough: a fresh save before a new area makes a failed chase cheap to retry.

Not every Cenobite-adjacent scene is a chase. The Sister of Mercy is first sneaked past and only later fought as a story boss — the clearest sign that each encounter sets its own rules.

Encounter rules, as reported

“Follow the encounter’s rules” is the whole strategy, so here is what the sources actually support:

  • Cenobites cannot be killed, so no encounter with the four featured ones is a damage race.
  • Encounters are story events. The Chatterer’s three chases happen at fixed points, and Hellchains unlocks right after the third, so the game paces them for you.
  • Stealth can open an encounter. The Sister of Mercy is sneaked past before she is ever fought.
  • Escape is the objective text. When an objective says escape, the game means it — see the objective route for where those moments sit.

Where a rule for a specific Cenobite is not documented — Pinhead’s own scenes included — this page says so rather than inventing one. Details beyond the Chatterer’s chases are not yet verified here.

Recommended weapons and powers

Carry tools for the enemies around him, because none of them are for him:

  • The knife for stealth kills on humans; it costs nothing.
  • A blunt weapon for armoured cultists, or a firearm to shoot the armour off.
  • A blade for staggered Unworthy, and a ranged answer — gunfire or Telekinesis — for Bursters.
  • Hellchains for Unworthy waves at full Suffering. Its described use is killing nearby basic enemies outright; do not hoard Suffering expecting it to end a Cenobite chase.

What the box does and when each power unlocks is on the Genesis Configuration page; the group-by-group version is in enemy weapon matchups.

Common mistakes

  • Shooting him. Ammo is scavenged and he cannot be killed; the shots accomplish nothing.
  • Trading blows. Melee weapons break, cannot be repaired once broken and are discarded.
  • Treating a scripted scene as a fight. If an encounter looks unwinnable, it is: the win condition is escape.
  • Overwriting your saves. Keep a manual save before new areas so a failed chase is a reload, not a replay.
  • Hoarding Suffering for the wrong moment. It fuels Hellchains against basic enemies, not a way out of a Cenobite encounter.

Trophy notes (spoiler-free)

Nothing in the published trophy list asks you to defeat Pinhead. The Cenobite-related story trophies are the three Chatterer escapes, which unlock through the story and cannot be missed. The kill-based trophies — Wetwork’s cultist stealth kills, Sticks and Stones, Portable Guillotine, the Hellchains tally — are all about humans and the Unworthy, not Cenobites.

The full list, including the 20 missables and the bugged shop pair, is on the trophy guide. Ending-related trophies are covered there with spoilers; this page keeps them out.

Pinhead FAQ

Can you kill Pinhead?
No. He cannot be killed, and no source behind this page describes a fight you can win against him.
Is Pinhead a boss?
Not as the guides describe it. The documented boss fights are Charlotte, Bruno (twice), the Sister of Mercy and Marlowe; no Pinhead boss fight or health pool is documented.
Who voices Pinhead?
Doug Bradley, returning to the role for the first time in nearly two decades.
Does Pinhead chase you?
The chases documented in the launch guides are the Chatterer’s three Labyrinth pursuits. Whether Pinhead himself has a chase is not yet verified here, so follow each of his scenes’ own rules.
What difficulty should I play?
Difficulty does not affect trophies, so play whichever you enjoy; surviving Cenobites is ruled by the encounter, not the setting. See the trophy overview.
